Building Condition Survey – Complete

As part of the New York State Department of Education’s Project R.E.S.C.U.E. (Rebuilding Schools to Uphold Education), E.I. Team was commissioned to perform full building surveys of all schools in the District.

In order to qualify for the release of State Funds, the District had to submit reports outlining the number and type of facilities owned, operated or leased by the district.

5 Year Action Plan – Completed

Mechanical Engineering:

E.I. Team was retained by Johnson Controls to provide design and construction support services for the Lackawanna School District’s Energy Performance Contract.  Involved were the following mechanical items:

E.I. Team provided a sequence of operation for Johnson Control’s METASYS program.  The system manages energy usage and provides important data to the schools.  The boiler pumps were replaced with energy efficient pumps to reduce electrical energy and mixing valves replaced with more reliable mixers.  The rooftop air conditioners were past their useful life and were replaced with energy efficient units with economizers and environment friendly refrigerant.  There was an old well that was reactivated by replacing the controls and water separator.  The well was connected directly to a small boiler which provided heating until well pressure fell below operational parameters.  No switching of the system from well to supplied utility gas was required. A new air conditioning unit was required.  It was located on the auditorium roof after careful steel structural analysis for supporting it.  Rusted pipe in a tunnel was replaced and insulated to save energy and leaching problems.  The steam traps throughout the school were assessed and replaced with the proper size and trap, thus reducing overheated condensate returning to the boilers.  Lastly, the outdated boilers were replaced with high efficiency boilers and sized according to proper loads.  EI Team also provided services in securing any New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) rebates on equipment.  Also, we provided services in securing the New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) approval for the project.

Electrical:
E.I. Team was retained by Johnson Controls to provide design and construction support services for the Lackawanna School District’s Energy Performance Contract.  Involved were the following mechanical items:

The high efficiency motor replacements provided an electrical energy savings and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) rebates.  The pool cover retained the heat in the pool, thus conserving electricity and natural gas in heating the pool.  All lighting was retrofitted to T8 fluorescent lamps and high lumen electronic ballasts wherever possible.  Occupancy sensors were placed in areas where there was infrequent use.  EI Team also provided services in securing the New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) approval for the project.
